Location: Byron Bay, New South Wales
Client: Hazell Bros
Duration: September 2019 – Current
Project Overview:
Clearpro was engaged by Hazell Bros as the dewatering and water treatment contractor on the Byron Bay Bypass project. The road infrastructure upgrade is designed to reduce traffic congestion through the Byron Bay town centre and assist communities to the south of Byron Bay access the highway. The project gained a lot of attention from local environmental and cultural groups as the bypass is directed through sensitive wetlands with vulnerable plant and animal species. Due to this, efforts to mitigate any environmental impacts through construction were of the highest priority. A number of culvert installations required dewatering and drain bypass systems to be installed. Due to the shallow groundwater table, high flow volumes were extracted from the wellpoint spearsystems. Low pH, high concentrations of heavy metal sand high turbidity were experienced through the duration of the project. Various combinations of water treatment equipment were used at different locations to achieve the required discharge criteria. Treated water was released into the adjacent wetland system connecting to Belongil Creek.
