Dewatering Highrise Basement – Tweed Heads, NSW

Location: Tweed Heads, New South Wales

Client: Heran Group

Duration:

Stage 1 – August 2017 to December 2017
Stage 2 and 3  –  February 2019 to June 2019

Project Overview:

Clearpro was engaged as the dewatering contractor on a high-rise building project in Tweed Heads NSW. The basement was dewatered using sumps and surface water pumping when required. Although groundwater inflows into the basement were relatively low, rainfall events resulted in considerable flooding of the excavation. The project was challenging due to indurated sands on the excavation floor resulting in dark brown/black water with extremely high turbidity and suspended solids. A smaller footprint treatment system was able to be utilised on this project due to the low intermittent flows.

After successfully completing stage 1 in 2017, Heran Construction reached back out to Clearpro to undertake stage 2 and 3 in 2019. The basement was initially dewatered using roaming sumps into two smaller systems to reduce the footprint but soon after it was evident a spear system was necessary with a larger clarification system and holding tank due to groundwater seepage into footings and lift-pits. Average groundwater treated over the project was 35kL/day with up to 85kL/day treated on heavy rainfall events
