Tunnel Boring – Biggera Waters, QLD

Location: Biggera Waters, Queensland

Client: Bothar Boring / John Holland

Duration: May 2019 – Current

Project Overview:

The Biggera Waters to South Stradbroke Island recycled water pipeline project is part of one of the Gold Coast’s largest ever infrastructure projects. A giant tunnelling machine, 2.5m in diameter, will bore a distance of 1450m under the Broadwater as part of the first phase of the Long Terms Recycled Water Release project which will eventually see recycled water released into the ocean several kilometres out from the Seaway. Clearpro is involved primarily in the dewatering of a 22m deep launch shaft. Being a high-profile project in an environmentally sensitive area the environmental restrictions on the project are well above industry standards. Large flow rates of up to 1.2ML/day have seen the need for us to develop our highest capacity and most advanced treatment system to date. Clearpro’s water treatment system consists of two independent treatment streams with alarm shut down functions, automated valving and continuous data collection. Our standard LB15 water treatment systems have been supplemented with holding tanks from several external contractors in order to achieve the required treatment rate of 20L/s.
